Marfret equips its vessels with the REPCET® system to protect cetaceans

The vessels Saumaty (servicing Marseille-Algiers) and Ferrymar (servicing inter-islands Guadeloupe-Martinique) have just been equipped with the REPCET® system, a collaborative technology designed to reduce collisions with cetaceans.

REPCET® allows subscribed vessels to report and share real-time sightings of whales and dolphins, creating a dynamic mapping of their presence at sea. This information not only helps adjust navigation to reduce the risk of collisions, but also enriches scientific databases used to monitor marine populations and their migratory behaviors.

The Saumaty operates near the Pelagos Sanctuary in the Mediterranean, while the Ferrymar sails within the Agoa Sanctuary, which protects cetaceans and their habitats over 143,256 km² in the Caribbean waters. In these areas, ship strikes pose a real risk to marine mammals, and REPCET® provides a concrete measure to mitigate this impact.

By installing this system on its vessels, Marfret demonstrates its commitment to reconciling maritime transport with the protection of marine biodiversity.
