A new milestone in the fleet renewal programme the company has pursued in recent years.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The contract was signed in Wuxue, on the banks of the Yangtze River, by Guillaume Vidil, CEO of Marfret, and the Hubei Guangji Green Energy Shipbuilding yard. This recently opened shipyard, equipped with ten building berths, has already been selected by several international shipowners for container ships and multipurpose vessels. Steel cutting is scheduled for March 2027, with construction expected to take around two years.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Vessels for our own services and for the chartering market<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Measuring 130 metres in length and 24 metres in beam, and classed by Bureau Veritas, the two container ships were designed with SDARI, the naval architecture firm behind the <em>Ferrymar<\/em>, the vessel Marfret operates on its inter-island service in the French West Indies. Their hull has been optimised to reduce fuel consumption. Given their size, they are intended for short sea shipping in Europe and the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of them could take over from the <em>Saumaty<\/em>, built in 2003 and deployed since 2018 on the Marseille-Algeria service. The other is intended for the charter market, an activity Marfret is developing by offering its vessels to other shipowners, as is already the case with the <em>Durande<\/em> and the <em>Marfret Guyane<\/em>. This choice reflects how the market is evolving: driven both by their own environmental commitments and by tightening regulations, charterers now favour modern, fuel-efficient tonnage.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A modernised fleet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the <em>Ferrymar<\/em>, which entered service in 2023, and the <em>Durande<\/em>, delivered in 2025, these two container ships continue the renewal of Marfret\u2019s fleet, with the same commitment to fuel efficiency for every vessel.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We look forward to keeping you updated in our upcoming newsletters on the key stages of their construction, from steel cutting to delivery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 19 September, Marfret signed a contract in China for the construction of two 480 TEU container ships.
