It was an inauguration evening that will long be remembered. Marfret has just completed the construction of a new building in R\u00e9mire-Montjoly, designed to bring together the teams of Marfret Guyane and those of GLMP, its stevedoring subsidiary, on a single site. A new milestone in a story that has been unfolding for more than forty years.<\/em><\/p><\/p>\n\n

Forty years of an unbroken bond<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

1982 – Marfret drops anchor in French Guiana. The exceptional challenges of this territory – distances, geography, difficult port access – do not deter the Marseille-based shipowner. Quite the opposite. Marfret sees it as a unique territory, demanding and fascinating, one that pushes you to surpass yourself and that you grow deeply attached to. Since then, the world has changed, shipping routes have been redrawn, and major regional hubs have grown in importance. But Marfret made a choice, and has stuck to it: direct service to Europe, with no detour through transshipment. A demanding choice, sometimes against the tide, but deeply rooted in a conviction: for a territory like French Guiana, reliability is not an option. It is a vital necessity.<\/p>\n\n

At the heart of the Guiana\u2013Amazonia service is the container vessel Douce France. A ship built for French Guiana: its shallow draft allows it to navigate the Mahury channel and access the port of D\u00e9grad des Cannes. Week after week, it connects French Guiana to Europe, ensuring the delivery of the territory’s everyday supplies. And when the health crisis brought everything to a halt, it kept going. Because some connections cannot be broken.<\/p>\n\n

For the territory’s large-scale projects, Marfret deploys a second dedicated service: the Marfret Niolon, a ro-ro vessel specialising in the transport of oversized cargo, exceptional packages, and heavy industrial equipment. Two ships, two complementary services, one single promise: to always be there, whatever the constraints.<\/p>\n\n

An exceptional territory, solutions tailored to its needs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

French Guiana defies conventional standards. A French territory open to the vast Amazon rainforest and facing the Atlantic, it combines a remarkable geography with a thriving economy. It is also a land of exceptionally ambitious projects, epitomised by the Guiana Space Centre, from which Europe launches its rockets towards the stars. A territory that looks far ahead, and which needs, to do so, reliable connections and flawless logistics. Marfret plays its part in this dynamic by delivering the equipment and materials that sustain one of the most strategically important launch sites in the world.<\/p>\n\n

What also makes Marfret strong in French Guiana is its ability to offer an integrated service. GLMP, the group’s stevedoring subsidiary, provides the essential daily link between ship and quayside. From sea to shore, every link in the chain is operated by the same group, to the same exacting standard – a guarantee of reliability for our clients.<\/p>\n\n

It is this complementarity that the new Cayenne premises now give physical form to. The Marfret and GLMP teams are brought together on a single site, enabling even smoother coordination, from the ship’s bridge to shore-side operations.<\/p>\n\n

These new premises mark a new chapter in this story – the story of a shipowner who does not simply serve a territory, but chooses to commit to it over the long term.
